Roadtrip 2022 Spring: Seaside - Bend - Boise - Park City - Grand Junction - Park City - Boise - Richland

Day 25 - Palisade, Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Preserve

Whenever we can't find a quality bakery this apple pie is my "road standard" go to. I can always find apples - at least that's the case to date! Resorted to this solution when it became obvious that the best bakery in GJ is Safeway! Everything we bought from the #1 recommended bakery was heavy dry and chemically sweet. It all went to the bin. Yikes. We did score some good stuff in Palisades today.

Yet another use for spent artillery casings. In case you can't make out the instructions, it is: "butt hole".

Johnny - take Erin and run down to get some fresh eggs and water from that new fangled thang that spits it out all nice and fresh.

The entrance to Peche Restaurant. It looks good - but it's 45 minutes from our digs and only open for dinner. Enticing - but we'll have to see if we can make it work.

Even the industrial parking lots have art.

Serious competition for Thomas Keller: Sunshine Laundromat.

Here's another "maybe on the list" for lunch as it looks great - but it's a bit unclear when they actually open. It's definitely not today. Don't dare violate the parking reg though!!

There's always action at the centre of town.

Palisade boasts an amazing array of public sculpture - Russ and Ella take a minute to relax and stay cool under the "big tent".

The team executes the run-in from the parking lot at Little Book Cliffs. We are the only people here.

We encounter more of these gorgeous red cacti blooms as we take in the scenery leading to the Book Cliffs

Russ crests the hill from where views can be seen in all directions.

The giant meadow where the wild horses roam. We hope. The muddy river at the bottom provides refreshment.

The Team assesses vantage points.

A look back along the trail.

Wild Horses! We're not wildlife photographers, so you'll have to put up with the horse-like specks, dead center.

We are thrilled to watch the behaviour of these powerful creatures. Here the main herd is on a ridge above the watchful eye of the guard. Our trusty guard is by far the largest horse - likely a stallion.

Inset from frame above...

The herd is probably 2km across the canyon, yet we can hear the thundering hooves.

Fluffy clouds hover over tomorrow's adventure, The Grand Mesa.

The Team locates our ex-fil point, under the power lines.

In a strange twist - we have the unique opportunity to serve as the support vehicle for the yellow jersey.

Ode to Andrea - Orchard Mesa style.
